Friends and family will gather at M1 Studio at the SABC's head office in Auckland Park, Johannesburg, to celebrate the life of broadcaster Pearl Shongwe.
The Metro FM news anchor and Daily Thetha host died on November 8. Her death left many heartbroken and shocked.
Her family issued a brief statement confirming her death and asked for privacy to process their loss.
“It is with great sadness that the Shongwe family announces the untimely passing of our beloved daughter Ntombifuthi Pearl Shongwe. She passed away in her sleep.”
Pearl was a news reader and presenter on popular radio and television shows The Touchdown on Metro FM and SABC1’s youth programme Daily Thetha at the time of her death.
She began her career in 2010 when she worked for youth radio station YFM as an entertainment reporter alongside youth pioneer and DJ Mo Flava for more than two years.
The Miss Soweto 2011 finalist worked diligently to earn her place as one of the most recognised voices as a news reader on SABC stations and as a television talk show host.
She has been part of productions such as SportsLIVE and Morning Live on weekends alongside Simphiwe Ncongwane, Daily Thetha and season 6 of SABC1’s youth leadership show One Day Leader.
Her funeral will be held in Diepkloof, Soweto, on Saturday.
