'You are a hip-hop icon': Slikour gives rapper Amu his flowers celebrating 50 years of hip-hop

Siyabonga Metane, popularly known as Slikour, has sung the praises of one of the OGs in the hip-hop fraternity, Amukhelani “Amu" Tshawane.

Taking to his Instagram timeline, Slikour wrote a lengthy appreciation post to the man he said represents what the culture is about. 

He also had a young shout-out to the rapper for his performance that took place at the South African Hip-Hop Museum in Newtown, Johannesburg, on Friday.

Hennessy was launching its Special Limited Edition bottle collaboration with hip-hop icon Nas in SA in commemoration of hip-hop’s 50th anniversary.

“My brother Amu, you have this love-hate relationship with hip-hop, but in this lifetime it’s who your are, your gift and curse. A long time ago J-Sec was the centre of Joburg hip-hop and the name that was most popular was Amunishin. The legend of how they dictated and intimidated 'wack' MCs at once popular hip-hop club Le Club either made you love or hate him and his crew,” wrote Siya.

“As a kid I heard your demo/mixtapes and there was a bravado, cadence, confidence and articulation that made you stand out, even if there were stronger lyrical artists on a track with you. Your conviction on beats was your secret weapon. Your raps sounded effortless, it was made for you.”

Speaking on the collaboration, Nas said: “It’s an honour to collaborate with Hennessy to commemorate this moment for the art form.
