Madagascar Cyclone Giovanna death toll rises

The death toll from Cyclone Giovanna, which struck Madagascar this week, has risen to 16, according to officials.
More than 10,000 people were homeless on the Indian Ocean island after the category 4 storm made landfall on Tuesday, the National Disaster Management Office said late Wednesday.
At least 3,380 homes and 38 schools were destroyed, according to the latest information.
Several people were still considered missing and more than 65 were being treated in hospital for injuries. Winds during the peak of the storm exceeded 200 kilometres per hour, causing damage to electrical lines and other key infrastructure.
The UN and other aid agencies say they are assessing the situation and preparing to deliver relief.
