As a cold front is sweeping up from the Cape tempers have heated up at Beitbridge when South African traders staged a five-hour blockade.

The traders were unhappy with a new law restricting the import of goods into Zimbabwe, according to New Zimbabwe,

The Citizen reports that the affected imports "ranged from hair extensions, peanut butter and yoghurt, to doors and window frames. Special permits were required in order to import the targeted goods."

South African police tried to block the crowds as they marched on the border.

Nehanda Radio reports that taxi drivers from Musina joined the protest as the day wore on, with picketers from both sides of the border carrying signs saying “Mugabe must go”.

A Zimbabwean traveller said “South Africans are serious. They have blocked the border and are threatening to burn any vehicle that is going to Musina. They are actually looking for Zimbabwean trucks to use as examples.”

Zimeye reports that eventually the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority warehouse went up in flames.
