Black Coffee last night walked away with South Africa's first ever BET Award in the category: Best International Act - Africa.

And as his name quickly made it onto the trends list for his massive achievement. So too did AKA, but not for the right reasons.

Even before Black Coffee had won the award, #AKAwinanga had started trending.

If you remember, this hashtag has happened before at award shows as the star walked away empty handed. It made an appearance last night again.

It gained momentum as all of the nominees of the category were invited on stage, of which AKA was one of them, but various media attending the event reported that the singer 'refused' to get up. (It has been reported that Wizkid and Yemi Alade did not attend the presentation)

In August last year the two had a public Twitter spat, where AKA told Black Coffee to mind his own business and not tell hip-hop folk about their own music genre.

While the trend raged, AKA responded, angry that South Africans were lashing out when they should be celebrating...

Some people defended AKA, saying he was about to perform and that is why he didn't go up. Others have pointed out that he was nominated in the category and had he won, he would've had to go up, making it a poor excuse.

Eventually, after all the backlash, AKA posted this picture...
