Hundreds of friends, family and fans packed the auditorium at Kyalami Race Track to honour the life of late racing car driver, Gugu Zulu on Tuesday.

It was an emotionally charged day as friends, colleagues and family members took to the stage to remember the man Zulu was.

To the rest of the nation Zulu was a sporting hero, but to those close to him he wore many hats - he was a son, a brother, a friend, a colleague, an employee and a husband.

Even though Zulu played so many different roles and meant different things to the people around him, those close to him all agreed that he leaves a lasting legacy, lived life to the fullest, and lived to make a difference to others.

Here's some of the most powerful quotes, which describe the legacy Zulu leaves behind:

His father, Peter Zulu: "To me Gugu is the best story ever told"

Zulu's friend Andre Ross: "I'm not ready to let you go but you lived a purposeful life"

Zulu's friend Stevel Marc: "You always wanted what was best for your first lady and I aspire to be you. You captured the nation with your humanity. We will be the best father to your baby she will never ever go hungry."

  •

Letshego Zulu: "You had so many dreams for our daughter. I promise to keep exposing her to our adventurous lifestyle. The lifestyle of the Adventure Couple hasn't come to an end. Lelethu and I will continue as the Adventure Couple."

Director and chairman of VWSA Thomas Schaefer: "Gugu embodied the spirit of a champion."

Zulu, who died last Monday while attempting to climb Mount Kilimanjaro as part of a Trek4Mandela expedition to raise funds for sanitary pads for impoverished girls, will be laid to rest on Thursday.
