'We are living the dream:' Gugu's last message to his friend Stevel Marc

Tears flowed at the memorial service for Gugu Zulu at Kyalami Race Track on Tuesday as one of his close friends relayed the last message Gugu sent him.

Speaking at a packed auditorium at the race track, well-known model and TV personality Stevel Marc paid tribute to his friend.

"You always wanted what was best for your first lady and I inspire to be you. You captured the nation with your humanity."

Zulu died while climbing Mount Kilimanjaro last week. He was on a Trek4Mandela expedition with his wife and more than 40 others who were attempting to raise funds for girls who can't afford sanitary pads.

Marc promised to look after Zulu's young daughter.

"We will be the best father to your baby she will never ever go hungry."

He then played a voice note that Zulu had sent him the night before he left for the expedition.

"We are living the dream," Zulu can be heard saying in the message.
