How a girls’ night out turned into a gala bash with Leonardo DiCaprio
Sigmonne Adams‚ 25‚ from Paarl in the Western Cape‚ returned home this week from what she described as “a trip of a life-time."By a sheer stroke of luck the local beauty found herself rubbing shoulders with DiCaprio and U2 star Bono. It all started with a normal night out for Adams and her girlfriends at Jade Champagne Bar & Lounge in Cape Town‚ when by chance she met her now good friend‚ Hermann Buehlbecker.Buehlbecker‚ the CEO of Lambertz‚ one of the world's largest cookie manufacturers‚ had visited Cape Town in June to attend the Global Consumer Summit.Shortly after meeting Adams‚ Buehlbecker invited her as one of his guests to the annual fundraising gala thrown for the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation in Saint-Tropez as well as Prince Albert’s Red Cross Ball in Monaco. Adams said her initial reaction was to think that “he was joking."But later that week‚ when her flight schedule arrived‚ her thoughts changed to‚ “What on earth am I going to wear!”The former La Rochelle Girls High School pupil immediately called up her friend and designer Marvin Roman‚ who designed gowns for the two events. And‚ on July 16‚ she was off to France.“My family and boyfriend came to see me off at the airport and I could feel the nerves and excitement kicking in. It was all still so unreal‚” she said.At the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation gala‚ Adams met the likes of Bradley Cooper‚ Tobey Maguire‚ Jonah Hill‚ Harvey Weinstein‚ Kate Hudson and Bono‚ among the high-profile guests on July 20. Adams said she was “privileged” to meet fellow South African‚ Princess Charlene of Monaco as well as Prince Albert at the Red Cross Ball on July 23.Speaking to TMG Digital on Tuesday‚ she described the experience as an “unforgettable moment” in her life. “Things like this don’t just happen and I am utterly grateful and honoured to have been one of Hermann’s guests. There are few people in the world who actually take a liking to you because of who you are inside‚” she said.Adams resides with her family in Paarl and has done modelling work for Allan Gray‚ Ackermans‚ Edgars‚ Foschini‚ Cosmopolitan Magazine and FHM.The down-to-earth beauty is currently dating South African football player Lennox Bacela...
