Musician and businessman Zakes Bantwini has for the first spoken out about the excitement he feels about expecting his first child with wife, Nandi Mngoma.

Taking to social media on Thursday Zakes also explained why he and Nandi decided to keep their romance private until now.

After weeks of swirling speculation the couple confirmed their marriage and pregnancy on Wednesday night.

  • Confirmed! Nandi Mngoma flaunts her baby bumpAfter months of swirling speculation Nandi Mngoma has confirmed that she is expecting her first child with husband, Zakes Bantwini.

Only hours after TMG Entertainment reported that Nandi had officially taken Zake's surname, the star took to the runway at the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week to confirm that she was expecting, showing off her baby bump.

Since the big announcement, Nandi has not commented on her pregnancy, choosing to only respond to messages of congratulations with thanks.

But an excited Zakes took to Instagram on Thursday morning to speak for the first time about his marriage and the couple's pregnancy, describing it as two of the things that God has blessed him with this year.

"I have so much to celebrate, my new single Amantombazane, my album I'm working on, my marriage, our pregnancy, God has truly blessed me this year," he wrote.

In the lengthy post, Zakes also revealed why he and his wife had decided to remain silent about their relationship, saying that the couple wanted to make the announcement on their own terms.

"More than three years ago of being in a relationship my wife and I decided to make our relationship private and not make a career out of our relationship. As excited as we have been about certain things, as Africans by culture you wait until the right time to divulge such sensitive news as a pregnancy. But unfortunately we had been robbed of such privilege by us being public figures. We decided to make the news official yesterday on our own terms than feeling pressure to succumb to speculation and rumours about our lives," he added.

Fans and celebrity friends have flooded social media with messages of congratulations to the couple.

And while he is grateful for the love and support the couple have received, Zakes has asked for their privacy to be respected as they embark on their new journey.

"Now that we’ve cleared the air, myself and my beautiful wife ask that we be given some privacy and respect to continue to enjoy this new chapter in our lives together."
