Set against the backdrop of the mining industry, the first season of Gold Diggers followed ageing miner Patrick Gumede, as he took his first steps into the dangerous world of illegal mining in order to provide for his family.

This storyline subsequently drew the attention of many viewers, which made the telenovela a hit on local screens.

According to statement, season two, which picks up from the dramatic season-ending cliffhanger with Ronald and Lucky escaping from jail, brings more thrills, captivating the audience with the Gumede family’s survival and the challenges of adjusting to the new world - without crime.

"Last year, e.tv launched the 8PM telenovela slot and the audience base has grown immensely for both Ashes to Ashes and Gold Diggers," said Marlon Davids, Managing Director of e.tv Channels Division.

Viewers can look forward to a cast packed with industry veterans and new talent, including the award-winning Owen Sejake, veteran Tinah Mnumzana, Daniel Hadebe, Dineo Nchabeleng, Loyiso Macdonald, Schelaine Bennett, Matshepo Maleme, Thobani Mseleni, Craig Palm, Andrea Dondolo and Tom Fairfoot.
