Former Miss SA Bokang Montjane-Tshabalala recently took a drive down to a house in the village where she used to live with her parents, and this prompted her to share memories of the place in where she grew up.

Despite that her village, Ga-Mphahlehle, had no electricity nor running water at the time when she was a little girl, Bokang insisted that she is not ashamed of her background, in a heartfelt note alongside a snap of herself standing in front of her old house, shared on Instagram.

She revealed that it was an emotional moment for her to be inside the yard of the house, which still had the coal stove her parents often used. That subsequently evoked some of the best memories she had during the eight years that she lived there.

"I got teary taking pics in this yard, inside mama and papas old house gosh even our old coal stove is still there ( stofo sa Malahla). Lol I have some of my best memories in this house," she wrote.

"I remember being little and waking up so early at about 4:30 every morning just so my dad could take me to Lebowakgomo to catch school transport to go to school at PCS because there wasn't even transport for kids from Gamphahlele to town for school."

  • Bonang to replace Trevor Noah as MAMAs hostMTV announced on Friday morning that Bonang Matheba would be hosting the MAMAs after Trevor Noah had to cancel his appearance.

Unafraid, she opened up about the fact that they didn't have electricity and would often have to travel a distance to fetch water from the river, before pointing out that this hasn't made her any less proud about where she comes from.

"Yes, I'm that girl who didn't grow up in a village that had electricity, yes I'm that girl when water would not run out from the outside tap we would go to the river (nokeng).

"And I am damn proud of where I come from," she asserted.
