Late veteran actor Joe Mafela had a lot of wisdom to share and in one of his last interviews, Joe spoke to DJ Sbu about how to remain relevant and the art of being professional.

The actor, who died earlier this month after being involved in a car accident, was a guest on DJ Sbu's breakfast radio show.

He said that a long-term career in the arts boils down to self-respect, something he realised at a very young age.

"I vowed that I would never let my children see me drunk, never! If I was drunk, I would stay out until they are asleep so they don't see me," he said.

Joe spoke at length about how passion is important, but noted that it is respect that helps maintain working relationships.

"Artists these days don't read a lot of theory. They lack professionalism. They also fail to respect time and the people you work with," he said.
