Miss South Africa Bokang Montjane will embark on a literacy campaign for Mandela Day and will start by donating books to the Limpopo primary school she attended.

“I want to re-instill a culture of reading in schools,” she said. “I believe that for children to develop as individuals they need to read. Reading helps pave the way to a successful and productive future.  Reading enhances lives.”

Montjane is appealing to the public to donate books to Kgaganoko Primary School in Seleteng, Limpopo, with the intention to open a school library at the end of July.

One thousand books have already been donated by Reader’s Society SA to Montjane’s reading campaign.

Alongside the literacy project, Montjane has a Legacy Confidence Camp at Sun City Resort for 50 girls from the Gauteng, Limpopo and the North West provinces.

She said: “Most of the girls come from disadvantage backgrounds and hopefully the camp will help to boost their self-confidence and enhance their leadership skills.”

The girls will be given workshops on anti-substance abuse, career guidance, leadership skills and grooming. Other personalities who will help motivate the young women includes former Miss SA Teen Zizo Beda and SuperSport presenter Mpho Maboi.

“I'm very passionate about uplifting the youth of SA and helping guide them, especially young ladies,” Montjane said.
