Lady Gaga has received a Hero award from an LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) organisation for her activist work.

The Judas singer was honoured with the "Hero" accolade by theTrevor Project at their Trevor Live fundraiser on Sunday.

Gaga - real name Stefani Germanotta - accepted the award from the family of Jamey Rodemeyer, a 14-year-old avid Lady Gaga fan who committed suicide earlier this year because of bullying.

Ace Showbiz quotes Gaga as saying: "I learned very long ago that my time here on this Earth would not just be for pop singing because I was very blessed to have beautiful fans, like I have in Jamey, like I will always have in Jamey. Thank you so much this award tonight. This means more to me than any Grammy I could ever win."

The singer has earned as much attention for her music and creative outfits as she has for being an avid gay rights activist.
