After requesting a police officer's name and identification after being pulled over on Monday evening for failing to yield at a stop sign - a former 'Stokvel' and current 'Rhythm City' actress was allegedly assaulted by a metro police officer.

According to actress Lele Ledwaba's agent, Wesley Mark Gainer, she was assaulted by a female metro police officer who beat her until she had a broken wrist, thumb and injuries to her shoulder.

Speaking to Channel24.com, Grainer said Ledwaba was in hospital receiving treatment and would seek legal action.

"From what I understand, Lele was asked to get out of her car, and when she requested the officer's name and identification, she (the officer) allegedly became aggressive and started rough handling Lele.

"This ordeal is absolutely shocking, especially at the hands of a female officer at the start of Women's Month," he said.

Edna Mamonyane, metro police spokesperson said she could not provide comment as she did not have sufficient details.
