Harrison Ford is to reprise his role as heroic archaeologist Indiana Jones - at age 70.

Reports suggest that a fifth Indiana Jones film is in the works, with series creator George Lucas penning the script.

And while the franchise's star Ford is currently 69, he will be 70 when filming commences later in 2012.

The Daily Mail quotes him as saying to Extra TV that he is "available" to play the explorer for a fifth time.

Director Steven Spielberg confirmed to Empire magazine that the storyline is under construction, with Lucas at the helm.

Ford first portrayed the iconic title character in the 1981 film Raiders of the Lost Ark, aged 39. The next film was 1984's Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, followed by 1989's Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.

The most recent Indiana Jones was 2008's Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, which co-starred Shia LeBeouf. The film received mixed reviews.
