South Africa takes nine Africa Movie Academy Awards

South Africa has scooped up nine Africa Movie Academy Awards, with ‘How to Steal 2 Million’ winning Best Film and director Charlie Vundla scooping Best Director on his debut.

The film also won for Achievement in Editing and Best Actress in a Supporting Role with Terry Phetto claiming this accolade.

Other South African winners were State of Violence for Achievement in Sound, Otelo Burning for Achievement in Cinematography and Best Child Actor for Tsepang Mohlomi as Ntwe, and Fana Mokoena for Best Actor in a Supporting Role for Man On Ground.

The Special Jury Award went to Akin Omotoso for Man on Ground, a Nigerian/South African xenophobia-themed co-production.

The National Film and Video Foundation has congratulated the South African winners saying this demonstrates the outstanding quality of our local productions

Nigeria was the most awarded country on the night, receiving 12 awards.
