Robert Nicolai, Howick: With the official 2008 unemployment statistics sitting at 23.1% of South Africans, and being one of them, I can only wonder about trade unions' "right to protected strike".

Surely one should simply not take the job if one is not happy with the pay, and that pay should rise by the national inflation rate every year.

Samwu members, you should realise that there are millions of others who would take your job tomorrow.

Please stop blockading the streets, trashing the infrastructure and distracting the police from fighting crime.

I think the unions' members should be liable for any damages to public property, that would sort out this wanton destruction!

If you are not happy with your working conditions and pay, just refuse the job offer, and if it's so easy, go out there and start your own company. But your workers will undoubtedly be unionised.

And do not disrupt the 2010 World Cup, or the hospitality union willprotest against your protest in the stadiums.

Civil war could erupt over this!
