Grandmother, George: I am a woman and have always been a feminist. I am all for gender equality, but to make it law that 50% of top jobs need to go to women must be thought through.

I am all for women who deserve promotion through hard work and proper qualifications for the job, but I think top jobs should go to the best candidates. Many women are not interested in working and, if their husbands can afford it, prefer to stay at home to look after the kids.

A mother being able and wanting to stay and look after her children herself is always the best option for kids.

Men are traditionally the providers for the family.

Although women make up 51% of the population, they are not necessarily 51% of the potential workforce.

Once my children were at school, I worked because I wanted to and we needed the extra income.

This legislation is going to make it very difficult for businesses to have the right people in the right positions.
