After the debacle of the South African-government-funded electric car the Joule, I am puzzled that the Environmental Affairs Department sees fit to waste more taxpayers' money on what can never be a viable option in a country where long distances between towns is the norm ("Green cars in first gear", yesterday).

Surely if a company wants to run with this concept it must be left to do it on its own.

I am tired of the usual "job creation/low carbon/green economy " mantra trotted out at every lavish government function/media launch.

The quicker this country gets back to basics - making it easier for companies to do business - the better off we will all be.

Pie in the sky ideas/projects are wonderful attention getters in the media but rarely translate into sustainable business.
