South Africans are proudly racist

As South Africans we have only one thing that is holding us back from being the rainbow nation of Madiba and Bishop Tutu - racism.

We are in denial that we all are racist, but yet we are daily calling each other racists!

How do you explain a nation that debates an issue only to stray from it just because the one side suspects racism from the other, how are we going to find each other if we keep on invoking the evils of racism, past or present we just need a little nudge and we all go over the gorge of racist attacks!

We fool ourselves when we fill stadia to watch the national teams with our colourful regalia, knowing full well deep down we are rooting for the team based on the race or colour of the players on the field.

When they lose its then that we unleash the racist comments regarding who should or not have played on the day. This happens in almost in any situation, political or social, we will find something that will incite our racist nature.

Having come from a racist past, we fooled ourselves in thinking that we can transcend the huge racist divide. No one has ever done that, not the Americans nor Australians or any other nation that we strive to be like. Every time we differ on something we blame race for it.

There are words in our South African everyday language that are not meant to be racist, but are classified as such, darkie, boer, boesman, honkie and that dreaded K-word. Yes I can’t even say it here - that word has caused so much anguish even when it was said innocently. Words that form part of our talking in general why are they singled out? Racism!
