ANC Youth League President Julius Malema has been seen speeding in a blue light convoy in Gauteng. According to witnesses, on Sunday at around midday a blue light convoy made up of a Police vehicle, two BMW X5s and a Mercedes 4 x 4 was seen speeding along the N1/Polokwane road towards Johannesburg.

The convoy was allegedly travelling at around 160km per hour, had blue lights flashing and sirens on. When the car stopped at the Pumulani Toll Plaza outside Pretoria, witnesses have said that they were able to see Julius Malema inside the Mercedes.

The question must be asked: Why is Julius Malema being escorted in a blue light convoy?  He is a person with the same status as any other person in this country.  He is not an elected public representative and the only position he holds is one of an office bearer in the ruling party.

What gives him the right to travel in a vehicle which is breaking the speed limit?  What gives him the right to travel in a convoy using blue lights and sirens?

We need answers from the Gauteng MEC for Community Safety, Faith Mazibuko as to who is allowed to travel in this manner. I will be submitting questions to her in this regard.

Once again it seems there is one set of rules for the ANC elite and another set of rules for the rest of us.
