Sale of horn stockpile will feed the corrupt: iLIVE

Government held rhino horn stockpile

Why should we pander to the Chinese and Vietnamese? Haven't they done enough damage?

We should not let them buy a single horn. They should be punished for the near demise of the rhino, not rewarded. We are perpetuating their pathetic myth.

With their voracious appetite for the horns, when they have chopped through the stockpile, they will continue their slaughter.

Drastic measures need to be taken - shoot poachers on sight and poison horns if they decide to sell them. - V Taylor

  • THIS "once-off" sale of rhino horns is another indication the government is set on selling all assets. Who will benefit? Service delivery? Education? Unlikely. Only those swimming in the gravy boat. - E Smith
  • IF SELLING rhino horn stockpiles can get our rhinos a few billion rand, then we should ship rhino to the Americas or Australia for conservation as flooding the market with horn is like offering cheaper narcotics in drug-addicted neighbourhoods.

Only if end users realise the horns have no health benefits will demand decline. The billions from a stockpile will quickly be consumed by corruption. Rather ship rhino to safer countries. - R Nicolai
