Citroen has halted production of its range-topping C6 saloon, the last luxury limousine from a French volume maker.

No replacement is planned for the elegant C6 which was introduced at the Geneva car show in 2005.

The car featured the company’s trademark hydropneumatic suspension and with its dramatic styling the 4.9-metre long C6 was clearly intended as a follow-up to the legendary DS.

Never a big seller at home or abroad, the C6 saw its public profile raised when former president Nicolas Sarkozy chose the car as his official limousine during his period of office (2007-2012).
