A crowd gathered outside the Mitchells Plain Magistrate's Court in Cape Town on Monday where a 30-year-old mother confessed to murdering her two-year-old son.

"We want Zulpha, we want Zulpha," the crowd chanted after the case against Zulpha Jacobs was postponed to February 16 for further investigation.

Magistrate Tom Cloete told Jacobs, who was wearing black and a yellow head scarf, that she would remain in custody until her next appearance.

Jacobs, who has been charged with murder and child abandonment in connection with the death of her son Tariq, nodded and kept her eyes down while Cloete addressed her.

She is being held in Pollsmoor prison's medical section.

Tariq Jacobs is the third of her children, all of whom were aged two or younger, to have died in about a decade.

His body was found among bushes on dunes behind the Imperial Primary School in Beacon Valley on December 31.

Jacobs had reported Tariq missing.

She was arrested after she confessed to killing him.
