A man died when minibus taxi hit him and crashed into a pole in Kwadabeka, KwaZulu-Natal on Monday, paramedics said.

"A report from the scene indicates that the taxi struck a pedestrian and then veered off the road and collided into a pole," said Netcare 911 spokesman Chris Botha.

He said the pedestrian died before paramedics arrived. A passenger from the taxi sustained minor injuries.

"The patient was treated at the scene and then transported to a nearby hospital for the care that he required."
