Bogus lawyer arrested for conning KZN family out of R2.4-million

A 76-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly conning a Durban family out of R2.4-million by posing as an attorney. KwaZulu-Natal police spokesman Major Thulani Zwane said the Durban Commercial Unit arrested the man on Wednesday."It is alleged that the suspect has been going around posing as an attorney. The Mthiyane family hired him to round up their estate‚ believing that he was a practising attorney. The suspect transferred the amount of R2.4-million to his personal account and spent the money on his personal expenses‚" he said.The KwaZulu-Natal Law Society confirmed that the man was not a practising attorney."The suspect was arrested at his business premises in Smith Street, Durban. He will appear in the Commercial Crimes Court today (Thursday)‚" Zwane said.He said investigators suspected that the man may have conned more people.Provincial Commissioner‚ Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni said: "We are appealing to anyone who might have defrauded by the suspect to come forward and open cases so that they will be fully investigated." – RDM News Wire, The Times..
