“Tourism is a creative industry that it should not be suffocated by excessive government regulation‚” the Democratic Alliance said on Monday. Monday‚ the party’s James Vos said‚ “is a very sad day for the tourism industry in South Africa as the disastrous visa regulations finally kick in”.The new rules require unabridged birth certificates for children travelling in and out of South Africa’s points of entry.Vos said the effects of “the new regulations have been felt across all spheres in the industry” and quoted the results of a poll last week in the UK’s Telegraph in which 61% of respondents said the new rules would put them off taking their child to SA.While Vos said the paper warned British families of “long delays and bureaucratic entanglement”‚ EWN on Monday morning reported: “If the new visa regulations are having an impact on flights in and out of South Africa at OR Tambo International Airport this morning‚ there’s no sign of it yet.“It appears to be business as usual‚” the news service said.Vos said: “We will closely monitor the outcomes of the regulations with the second quarter financial results as a measuring stick.”..
