American tourist mauled by lion identified as Game of Thrones video editor: report

The woman who was mauled to death at the Johannesburg Lion Park has been identified as a special effects editor who worked on a slew of well known series and films such as Game of Thrones.

Katherine Chapell was on holiday in South Africa, visiting the country's tourist hot spots.

According to Daily Mail and ABC News, Chapell has been identified as the tourist who succumbed to her injuries after a lioness pounced through a a car window, attacking her and eventually leading to extensive injuries and her death.

The UK and American based websites report that Chapell's family had confirmed on Facebook that she died while on holiday.

 

Chapell, 29, was a wildlife conservationist who was in the country to raise money for special projects. She was in SA for a week before the attack which took her life. She had travelled from Canada where she was working full time. A special effects editor, Chapell counted Game of Thrones,Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Divergence and Secret Life of Walter Mitty. She had won an Emmy with the team of Game of Thrones in 2014.

 

Chapell's sister, Jennifer, wrote on Facebook: "Katie was a brilliant, kind, adventurous and high-spirited woman. Her energy and passion could not be contained by mere continents or oceans. She was very much loved and shared her love for life with those she met." 

According to reports, Chapell was driving with a tourist guide with the windows of their car wide open. Eyewitnesses say that Chapell continued taking pics even as the lioness approached. Her camera has been taken in by police who may review it as evidence in their inquest docket.

Chapell leaves behind her mother, father, brother and two sisters.
