Tik worth R1.4-million seized at Cape Town airport

A 28-year-old Johannesburg woman was arrested at the Cape Town International Airport on Tuesday morning after police found R1.4-million worth of tik in her luggage.

According to police‚ the woman - who authorities will only name after her first court appearance - was on a flight from OR Tambo International Airport.

Police spokesman Captain Frederick van Wyk said that while searching a suitcase‚ various packages wrapped in a baby fleece blanket were found by the police’s anti-drug smuggling team.

“Upon opening these packages they found it to be tik.

“Approximately 5kg of tik with an estimated street value of R1.4-million was seized‚” he said.

The woman is due to appear in the Bellville Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.
