NSFAS issues final call for funding applications

While government scrambles to free up funds to make up for a shortfall caused by the announcement of a freeze in university fee increases‚ the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS ) issued a final call for 2016 applications for funding. Those needing assistance to study at selected public universities and technical vocation and education teaching (TVET) colleges in the 2016 academic year have until November 30 to submit applications.The institutions are: Durban University of Technology‚ Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University‚ University of Venda. Sol Plaatjie University‚ University of Mpumalanga‚ King Hintsa TVET College‚ Motheo TVET College‚ Umfolozi TVET College‚ South Cape TVET College and Ekhurhuleni East College.“The applications for financial assistance are only open to learners/students from poor and working class families who cannot afford to pay for their studies‚” said NSFAS spokesperson Kagisho Mamabolo.The NSFAS had‚ since the beginning of August‚ received 30,582 online applications of which “a significant number…have been processed thus far”‚ said Mamabolo...
