Police have arrested a 21-year-old pupil after he stabbed a female pupil 14 times in full view of the school in Harankopane Village on Monday.

Police spokesperson Sergeant Mmako Mophiring said police were called to the school by teachers after they witnessed the stabbing.

"The two school kids had an argument when the boy took out a knife and stabbed the 18-year-old school girl," Mophiring said.

Mophiring said the attack happened in front of other pupils.

"He has been arrested and will be charged today. The girl was taken to a nearby hospital," he said.

Her condition was not immediately known.

Mophiring told News24 the pupil would appear in the Phuthaditjhaba Magistrate's Court on Wednesday.
