Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu has been praised for his civic-mindedness after he was spotted picking up rubbish on the street. Real estate agent Peter Andrianatos sighted the Archbishop‚ who lives in the Cape Town suburb of Milnerton‚ picking up rubbish on Pienaar Road while on a walk in the suburb on Sunday evening."I believe he does this on a regular basis in Milnerton‚" said Andrianatos."He walks the streets daily for exercise‚ but whatever litter he sees lying in the street‚ he picks up and puts it in the nearest dustbin."Andrianatos posted about his encounter on Facebook‚ as "people need to know that everyone can do their bit for the community and for the country”.His posts have garnered 175 likes to date."I think it's remarkable for a man of that age and that stature bothers‚" said Andrianatos of the archbishop who is 85 years old.The archbishop had also checked his voting status at the previous voting registration weekend‚ said Andrianatos."May our local resident of Milnerton be blessed‚" Andrianatos wrote in the post. "Archbishop Desmond Tutu is a legend."Tutu‚ who was hospitalised twice towards the end of last year‚ took the praise in his usual humble way‚ saying: “I am feeling much better‚ thank you‚ though not necessarily any younger than I did six months ago.“I’ve been picking up litter on my walks for years‚ and encourage other to do the same.”..
