Cops make R38 million heroin bust in Mpumalanga

A Cape Town man arrested with heroin valued at R38-million is due to appear in the Middelburg Magistrate’s Court on Thursday. He was arrested by the “organised crime wing of the Hawks in Middelburg and Secunda‚ Mpumalanga together with Ermelo Crime intelligence officers” at Middelburg on Wednesday.“The officers were acting on information about a vehicle which had smuggled the drugs through the Oshoek port of entry‚” a police statement said.It also said that a smaller haul – worth R225,000 – saw seven suspects‚ aged between 22 and 55‚ being taken into custody after being caught in the act of packaging heroin at Savannah Park near Marianhill‚ KwaZulu-Natal on Wednesday night.That bust involved Hawks‚ Chatsworth Crime Intelligence and Showeni K9 unit members.The suspects will appear in the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court on Friday...
