Stellenbosch University to continue review of language policy

The university announced last year that it will be introducing English as the only medium for lectures. AfriForum Youth‚ joined by five other applicants‚ challenged this in April‚ but withdrew the application.This prompted the university to announce on Thursday that it will continue with its plans to review the language policy‚ said SU spokesperson Susan van der Merwe said.Van der Merwe said the university will apply the current language policy until they have amended the new policy."The university will apply the existing language specifications until the current language policy and language plan have either been amended or replaced‚" she said.AfriForum Youth had challenged the university's introduction to use English only as a language for lectures‚ stating that both Afrikaans and English must be used during tuition.This was the second court application regarding the language policy at Stellenbosch University in 2016. – TMG Digital..
