Baby girl offered for sale for R600

A Durban man was nabbed by police after attempting to sell a baby for R600 on Friday.

Police received a tip-off that the man was trying to sell the baby girl in Besters‚ near KwaMashu.

Private security company KZN VIP collaborated with a team of policemen to track down the man and the child‚ who is believed to be related to him.

According to KZN VIP head Glen Naidoo‚ the baby was found within 30 minutes.

"The beautiful baby is in good condition and was eventually handed over to SAPS Phoenix as they continue their investigation‚" said Naidoo.

Meanwhile‚ a 20-year-old mother who tried to sell her baby for R5‚000 on an online classified website has been sentenced to house arrest for three years and a five-year suspended jail term.

Pietermaritzburg Regional Court magistrate Rose Mogwera on Wednesday further sentenced the woman to community service without remuneration. The woman has to also attend life skills programmes and other courses determined by the Mental Health Society.
