KwaDukuza prisoners on the lam after overpowering officer

Police are searching for two prisoners who escaped through the roof of the KwaDukuza police station on the KwaZulu-Natal north coast. The two awaiting trial prisoners‚ who were detained in the holding cells‚ overpowered and attacked a police officer after 5pm on Sunday‚ said police spokesman Major Shooz Magudulela."He was trying to lock up after feeding them. The two prisoners - one charged with robbery and the other with theft - managed to escape through the storeroom roof."The police officer suffered bruises to his left arm.Magudulela said a case of escaping from lawful custody and malicious damage to property is being investigated.In January‚ two policemen in Mandeni were shot and killed by prisoners during an attempted escape.
