Suspects in custody after being caught with point of sale devices

A 24-year-old waiter arrested for the “unauthorised possession of a point of sale device” will apply for bail on June 15‚ the Hawks said on Thursday.A statement said it is alleged that Tawanda Chirume‚ who made an appearance in the Grabouw Magistrate's Court on Wednesday‚ “was unlawfully processing customer payments using the said device that does not belong to the employer”.“The establishment has lost an amount in excess of R100 000 as a result of the accused's illicit actions‚” it added.“It is suspected that Chirume is part of a wider syndicate that thrives on defrauding businesses as well as customers’ bank accounts.”The statement also said that “in a similar matter‚ but isolated‚ just before 11am‚ two suspects‚ aged 25 and 35‚ were arrested at Cape Town international Airport also for possession of a point of sale device‚ as well as several suspected cloned bank credit cards”.They have been charged for “contravention of the Electronic Communications Transaction Act” and will expected to appear in the Bellville Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.- TMG Digital..
