Cosatu wants police to investigate more cases of racial attacks in Limpopo‚ after petrol station beating

The Congress of South African Trade Unions (Cosatu) has called on provincial police to take over all investigations into cases of racial attacks in Limpopo. This follows the arrest of two white men who have been arrested for assaulting a black petrol attendant in what is believed to be a racially motivated attack in Tzaneen. The men‚ whose actions were captured on CCTV‚ appeared in court on Tuesday and will appear again next week.Watch: Petrol attendant beaten during 'unprovoked' attack“Our call is informed by the fact that in Tzaneen there are three other similar cases that were reported to the police by the colleagues of Mr Johannes Monyela who has been a victim of racist assault at the same Sasol petrol station‚ and since then‚ there was no progress‚” provincial Cosatu general secretary Gerald Mkhomazi Twala said .“Our suspicion is that cases that are reported by blacks against white people are not taken to court‚ thereby denying our people justice‚" he claimed.“As the federation we are therefore concerned that the SAPS in Tzaneen is not taking these cases seriously‚ hence our call for the provincial detectives to take over‚” said Twala.Cosatu has also called on those who have similar cases that have “disappeared” and not found their way to court‚ to approach them for assistance...
