Man’s body and badly burned woman discovered day after house fire

The body of an elderly man and an elderly women with extensive burns to her lower legs were discovered on Sunday afternoon a day after a fire in a house in Newcastle in Kwazulu-Natal‚ paramedics said. ER24 said that when the local fire department and paramedics‚ responding to a call‚ arrived on the scene on Sunday afternoon there were no signs of a fire‚ but when they were escorted inside by bystanders it was evident that there had been a fire inside the house.“Upon assessment it was evident that a fire took place inside the house‚ however‚ it appeared as if it was extinguished some time ago.“An elderly man was found lying on the kitchen floor. He had no signs of life and appeared to have been dead for some time. Paramedics found an elderly woman in the bedroom with extensive burns to her legs. She was in shock and severe pain‚” the emergency medical service said.“It is understood from the woman that the fire apparently took place sometime on Saturday. The couple and damages were only discovered this afternoon when friends came over and entered the house. They alerted emergency services‚” ER24 added.“The local authorities attended the scene and will conduct an investigation into the cause as well as the exact circumstances surrounding the fire and when it started‚” it said...
