Names of SANDF members killed in Friday’s bus accident released

The names of 11 South African National Defence Force (SANDF) members killed in a bus accident at Clarens in the Free State on Friday have been released.

The victims included a chaplain‚ Phumza Teledimo‚ 37‚ and four civilians - Lesego Cynthia Rasethuntsha‚ 25; Maria Jacobs‚57; Alice Thakanyane Masilo‚ 27; Portia Palesa Ramabodu‚ 26;

The soldiers killed in the accident were Corporal Akhona Tshoni‚ 30; Lance-Corporal Sharon Nosiphiwe Macala‚ 27; Lance-Corporal Cheena Roberta Jonkers‚ 30; Sergeant Matseko Josephine Madimabe‚ 26; Lance-Corporal Maditsietsi Constance Morotolo‚ 26; and Private Maserame Dorcas Molibeli‚ 25.

“Funeral arrangements will be announced after confirmation by the families of the deceased members. A joint memorial service is planned for Wednesday‚ 24 August 2016. Time and venue for the memorial service will be announced in due course‚” the SANDF said.

The victims were all from the Department of Defence’s Mobilisation Centre in De Brug‚ Bloemfontein. The driver evidently lost control of the bus‚ which was transporting 42 SANDF members at the time‚ and it rolled down an embankment in the Golden Gate Reserve near Clarens.
