Sea rendezvous to rescue sailor

A foreign sailor in a critical condition was rescued during a sea rendezvous with a bulk carrier 17.5 kilometres off the coast of Port Elizabeth on Sunday. National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) deputy station commander for Port Elizabeth Justin Erasmus said a rescue crew‚ accompanied by an Eastern Cape government EMS paramedic‚ responded to the emergency.The 35-year-old sailor from the Republic of the Union of Myanmar was aboard the 270-metre bulk carrier Vega Dream. He was suffering from an intestinal illness and had become unconscious.He was given emergency medical treatment aboard the ship and then lowered‚ in a Stokes basket stretcher‚ onto the sea rescue craft and taken ashore.He was taken in a serious but stable condition by ambulance to hospital. ..
