Distress flares in False Bay remain a mystery

Sea rescuers are still baffled over multiple red distress flares that were reported to have been fired in False Bay in the Western Cape on Tuesday night. At least three distress flares are reported to have been fired off-shore over the Kalk Bay or Muizenberg areas. National Sea Rescue Institute duty crews from Strandfontein and Simonstown were activated but despite an extensive search operation‚ no sign of anybody or vessels in distress were found and no persons or craft were reported to be overdue.“It is suspected that these multiple red distress flares may have originated inland but giving the impression to people living along the coastline that they had originated off-shore.“On Wednesday‚ with no reports of any persons missing or overdue the origin of these multiple red distress flares remains a mystery‚” the NSRI said...
