Cosatu general secretary Bheki Ntshalintshali and the South African Communist Party’s Solly Mapaila on Friday accepted a memorandum of demands from hundreds of students backing the #FeesMustFall call. Clad in their political regalia‚ reflecting different affiliations‚ the students sat at the corner of Simmons and Jorissen streets in front of Cosatu House. "We came here because we are the children of the working class. Our parents are poor and Cosatu represents the working class - not unless they tell us otherwise today … we are saying Cosatu can't afford to be silent in this matter‚" said Mcebo Dlamini‚ a former Wits SRC president. Ntshalintshali and Mapaila signed two copies of the memorandum and said the matter would be discussed with office bearers and other structures in the union. They promised a response by Monday. Upon signing Mapaila said: "We appreciate that the students came here today to give their demands for free education and we support the call as the SACP."Ntshalintshali said: "We have been working with South African university students and we have developed some programmes. We have agreed with them that their parents will be marching and among the demand they will be getting forward is the issue of free education." – TMG Digital..
