Man dies in chopper crash during game counting operation in Limpopo

A fiery helicopter crash at Modjadjiskloof in Limpopo claimed the life one person and left another critically injured on Wednesday.

Spokesperson Ronel Otto said police are investigating the accident‚ which happened at around 5pm.

“A Jet Ranger helicopter carrying two men in their early 30s crashed into a dry river bed on a farm‚" Otto said.

One of the men in the helicopter died on the scene while another was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries.

ER24 said in a statement on Thursday: “The helicopter was alight. Sadly there was nothing that could be done for one of the men who was in the wreckage. He had succumbed to his injuries.”

The other man “was found lying a few meters away from the helicopter”.

Otto said: “The cause of the crash is being investigated.”

Both men are from Gravelotte and were reportedly busy with game counting in the Mooketsi area when the accident happened.
