Neighbourgoods market closed due to #FeesMustFall protests

Johannesburg's Neighbourgoods market will be closed on Saturday following the chaos that saw a building and cars torched in Braamfontein on Friday night during a clash between students and the police.

“Due to the events in Braamfontein over the last few days the Neighbourgoods Market will be closed today‚” Play Braamfontein‚ a property development and urban regeneration company‚ announced on Twitter and on Facebook on Saturday.

The market will be open again next Saturday.

An SABC van was one of the vehicles torched during the protests‚ while local nightclub The Orbit was also damaged.

The club has been closed for the weekend.

The police are patrolling Braamfontein and no incidents of violence were reported on Saturday morning.
