eFiling system to be unavailable on Friday: Sars

The South African Revenue Service (SARS) said its eFiling system will be unavailable on Friday due “to a substantial IT system upgrade and maintenance”.

In a statement on Wednesday‚ spokesperson Sandile Memela said it is expected to be out of service between 3pm and 10pm.

“SARS wishes to apologise to all taxpayers for the inconvenience‚” Memela added.

The collector recently announced that it had paid out “an astounding R15.5-billion in tax refunds” to 1.98-million taxpayers by the end of Tax Season – November 25.

It also said that it has “imposed penalties to the value of R1.64-billion on defaulting taxpayers” by the season deadline for non-provisional taxpayers.
