Thirty-three children had to be transported to various hospitals in Johannesburg on Saturday afternoon for assessment after inhaling what was believed to be fumes from pool acid at the Zoo Lake swimming pool.

“Following the incident patients were moved to a road close by and the parking area. However they were moved to an undercover area when it started raining‚” said ER24 spokesperson Chitra Bodasing Harduth. She added that the children‚ aged between about 6 and 16 years‚ had reported difficulty in breathing.

After being attended to by paramedics they were ferried to various hospitals in the city for further assessment.
