Burnt body of baby found in Westbury

Johannesburg police are looking for anyone who can help with information following the discovery of the burnt body of a baby in Westbury on Monday.

Police spokesperson Captain Mavela Masondo said Sophiatown police received a call about the discovery of the body at about 9.30am.

“When the police arrived they found the body of an unknown baby girl and it seems that the baby was burnt as well. At this stage the age of the baby is unknown. No one has been arrested in connection with the incident.

An inquest docket has been opened and is been investigated. We appeal to the public to come forward with any information that can help the police with the investigation‚” Masondo added.

A post-mortem will be conducted to establish the actual course of death. Anyone with information that can help the police in the investigation can call crime stop on 08600 10111 or send an SMS to crime line at 32211.
