The South African Weather Service issued a warning on Tuesday for heavy rain leading to flooding in Gauteng and other parts of the country.

The City of Joburg released a statement warning that certain parts of Johannesburg are experiencing isolated floods in the low lying areas. Some of the roads affected include Witkoppen Road in Paulshof, Roosevelt Road in Alexandra and the low level bridge on River Road in Bryanston.

"The South African Weather Services is predicting 65 millimetres of rainfall for Johannesburg today which could cause flash floods," the statement added.

Heavy rains were also expected in central and eastern parts of the North-West province, coastal and western parts of KwaZulu-Natal, the north-eastern parts of the Free State, and Highveld areas of Mpumalanga.

Conversely, the SA Weather Service also issued a warning for a heat wave with persistently high temperatures in the West Coast District. The service warned of extremely high fire danger conditions for the Cape Metropole, Cape Winelands, western regions of the Overberg District of the Western Cape and the south-western parts of the Northern Cape.
